How the WordPress cookie consent plugin works

A few moments after a page loads, the banner slides in from the edge of the screen. Visitors click Accept or Decline, and the banner slides away. Their choice is saved in a real browser cookie (scc_consent) for 180 days by default, so they aren’t asked again on every page. Visitors can also close the banner with the X, which hides it for that visit only.

Place it anywhere with shortcodes

You decide where the banner appears, using two shortcodes:

• shows the banner on any page, post or footer widget.
• Cookie settings adds a link that reopens the banner, so visitors can change their mind.

Customize the banner with attributes such as position, days, delay, message, accept, decline, privacy_url, privacy_text and accent. For example:

Check a visitor’s choice in PHP with urzone_cc_has_consent() or urzone_cc_get_consent(). In JavaScript, listen for the scc:change event to load analytics or marketing scripts only after a visitor accepts.

Good to know

The plugin records and exposes your visitors’ choice, but it doesn’t automatically block third-party scripts. Use the helper function or event to control them. Check what your local privacy laws require for your site.
